Cryotherapy and health effects
Cryotherapy was initially developed in Japan to combat pain and itching. It turned out to be the ideal treatment for pain caused by a number of diseases including MS, rheumatism, osteoarthritis, gout, psoriasis and Crohn’s disease. Read more about the positive effects of cryotherapy below, if you want to improve your health.
The health benefits of cryotherapy
- Activates the immune system
- Stimulates blood circulation
- Fights depression through endorphins and serotonin
- Reduces pain and itching
- Reduces spasms
- Speeds up the healing process after surgery
- Kills viruses in the blood by a temporary rise in temperature during treatment
Cryotherapy for psoriasis
In case of psoriasis, the cold stimulus accelerates the production of healthy skin cells and reduces the growth of psoriasis. It appears that regular sessions greatly reduce the outbreak of psoriasis, because the immune system is put on edge. Itching and skin irritation is considerably reduced. Cryotherapy also helps treat psoriasis in the face and neck: where creams cannot be used, Whole Body Cryo can. Moreover, cryotherapy has no side effects compared to the regular psoriasis treatment method.
Cryotherapy for rheumatism
When Japanese researchers wanted to improve rheumatism treatment, they discovered the benefits of cryotherapy. The effects of the cold stimulus in rheumatism patients are overwhelming. Cryotherapy cannot cure rheumatism, but it does help to strengthen the overall immune system, reduces pain and stiffness, works as an anti-inflammatory, and improves the state of mind by releasing endorphins and serotonin.
Cryotherapy for chronic pains
Muscle and joint pains are common. Sometimes they go away quite quickly; at other times they are persistent and become chronic. You can suffer from these pains all over your body: persistent pain from a whiplash injury and lower back pain as well as osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, rheumatism and chronic headaches. Often nothing can be done through regular medicinal practices, despite experimenting with different theories. In many of these cases, cryotherapy can make a difference.
Cryotherapy for fibromyalgia
As with rheumatism, effective medication for fibromyalgia does not yet exist; even though symptoms of the disease, such as pain and lethargy, can be reduced. It is also possible to reduce swelling and inflammation. Cryotherapy cannot cure fibromyalgia either, but it does help to strengthen the overall immune system. Cryo treatment reduces pain and stiffness of the body, acts as an anti-inflammatory and improves the state of mind by releasing endorphins and serotonin.
Cryotherapy in combination with physiotherapy
After a Whole Body Cryo session your aches and pains will be reduced. As a result, a physiotherapist can provide you with better treatment and his or her approach will be more effective. The patient’s pain tolerance will be increased temporarily and the body’s flexibility improved. As a result, it may be that you are able to perform better at certain exercises.
An effective treatment for burns
“My name is Johnny van Houdt. Five months ago, I suffered second and third-degree burns while lighting our wood fire. My face, hands, back and right leg suffered second-degree burns. I have a third-degree burn on my right ankle, for which I have had a skin graft.
Once the wounds had almost healed, I began to suffer from terrible itching, especially on my back. This prevented me from sleeping. We first tried ointments and tablets from the hospital, but nothing helped.
Finally, we were advised to go to a cryosauna. This should provide some relief.
I agreed to try treatment for 10 sessions. After just two sessions, the difference was clearly noticeable. The itching reduced and I was able to sleep better.
After about the fourth session, I was almost free of the itching, but I still suffered from it from time to time. I have now had 9 sessions in 4 months. I’m my old self again, and I also get the impression that the cryosauna has promoted the healing process.
I am very positive about this treatment. I would recommend it to anyone who has complaints after the healing of burns, at least go try it. The atmosphere is pleasant as well and, thanks to Diana’s help, I have worked through this healing process.”
